Spoon Sports finally has an N1 exhaust for the new Honda Civic Type R.

Late last year I reported that Spoon Sports Japan was actively developing parts for the new Honda Civic Type R, which they have, and earlier yesterday (July 27, 2018) they finally dropped a long-awaited part. According to Spoon Sports, they have an FK8 N1 Muffler kit for the 2018 Honda Civic Type R and it’s everything I expect from Spoon Sports and more. Check out some beautiful shots of this clean-looking exhaust below.

The biggest design element that people are still having a hard time getting over is the dual tips. Stock, the Honda Civic Type R infamously comes with three noise-canceling tips which cancel drone depending on your driving speed. Surprisingly, some people prefer the three tip look perhaps because a dual tip is what a Honda Civic Hatch Sport has.

I rather like this dual tip look, it’s cleaner overall finish to the rear of the Honda Civic Type R. Finishing the tip is N1’s iconic rolled tip found on any N1 exhaust from Spoon Sports.

Interestingly enough, Spoon Sports does have a single tip exhaust for the Honda Civic Type R but that’s only for their racecar and is not for sale.

As for the sound, there are no real clips out there yet but according to Spoon, this N1 muffler retains that classic N1 sound , a clean yet deep sounding tone. Here’s a rather crude clip of what an N1 exhaust sounds like on an NA S2000 if you want a baseline of what this N1 could sound like.

An exhaust is useless in my opinion if it doesn’t make power but Spoon Sports made sure to develop this exhaust in conjunction with ECU tuning to ensure customers that this exhaust is more efficient.

Although it is CIVIC TYPE R (FK 8) which exhibits the maximum output 320 ps and the maximum torque 400 Nm even in normal, it aims to improve the output in the whole area without impairing the high-torque, high-response engine performance in the low to middle revolution range which is also its characteristic.

Allegedly this N1 Muffler kit will cost $2,700+ which isn’t too bad considering this is a new product. You’re also getting excellent quality that will last you many years to come.

If I had an FK8 Honda Civic Type R, I wouldn’t buy a new one but probably wait a couple of years until someone sold me their used one.

Props to Spoon Sports for this new exhaust. I’m sure it’ll sell like hotcakes.
