McLaren Automotive confirmed that they’re working on their McLaren Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo one-off, a prototype of a GT car that will cherry pick heavily from their submission to Gran Turismo.

When Gran Turismo released more than two dozen prototypes designed by real-deal car manufacturers, most people wrote those designs off as one-offs, destined for video games. But, with submitters like Bugatti and Acura actually making real-life versions of those cars, those other car makers who submitted designs are now considering bringing their visions to life. As per Motor1 and their report on what McLaren has up their sleeves earlier this week (Oct. 19,2018) it looks like McLaren is mocking up a full-sized version of their bonkers looking prototype based on the Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo dubbed the BC-03. Check out a photo of what it might look like based on what McLaren submitted to Polyphony digital below.

As the name hints at BC-03 stands for bespoke customer commission which presumably means that, as per a customer’s request, someone with cash to bankroll this sort of commision, wants to make something McLaren that the world has never seen before.

Heading the project will be McLaren Special Operations, and if it’s anything like the Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo they designed, this car should be proper bonkers.

Like most of the hypercars coming out today, expect McLaren to stuff something powerful paired with electric motors and a sizeable battery pack. The UVGT has a 4.0L twin turbo V8 paired to electric motors driving the front wheels for a combined 1134 horsepower.

As an aside, if that combination sounds familiar, it’s what’s powering the Acura NSX, a car with a combined power output a little less than half this McLaren UVGT but totally available today.

The UVGT dips heavily into its Formula 1 tech with exotic carbon fiber materials and innovative aerodynamics so expect this BC-03 to do the same. Their goal of 2,205 pounds doesn’t sound all that impossible.

BC-03 will be super powerful, weigh next to nothing and cut through the wind like a sharp Ginsu knife.

Color me intrigued.
