Koenigsegg automotive shared a truly eye-opening photo of the humble beginnings that was Koenigsegg of yesteryear.

In the less than quarter-century that Koenigsegg’s been around, the small Swedish supercar company has racked up an impressive list of speed records, come out with at least eight supercars, not to mention a handful of variants, and as of late, partnered with a Chinese funded company to produce what I can only assume are electric supercars, the wave of the future for performance. But, like all successful companies, they came from humble beginnings and this photo shared earlier today (Mar. 28, 2019) by Koenigsegg Automotive shows just that. Check out the photo of Christian Von Koenigsegg and his business partner in probably one of the world’s fastest go-karts below.

While technically the photo does show Christian Von Koenigsegg driving around in what is a Go-Kart, it’s most of a rolling chassis for his first car, the CC. The CC is a one-off prototype with at least three known working models. Outback is a bog-standard 4.2L V8 from an Audi chosen for its tunability if variants came out, which never panned out. Not shown in this photo are the dihedral helix synchro actuation doors know a mainstay on Koenigsegg cars moving forward.

This particular chassis weighed around 1320 pounds but packed 400 HP behind them. To put that in perspective, an Ariel Atom 500, a car that set the record on the old Top Gear test track, weighs about 100 pounds less and packs 100 more horsepower. You can imagine Koenigsegg’s rolling chassis was almost as fast.

Six years later, Koenigsegg would come out with its first production supercar, the CC8S.

If you keep up with hypercar news, you’ll know that Koenigsegg’s recently announced Jesko aims to eclipse 300 MPH without breaking a sweat. Just 125 units of those will be made, which is a sizeable amount for such a small company.
