I learned the hard way that GM took their Hollywood Star for the Chevrolet Suburban back to Detroit.

If you’re a car enthusiast, you probably heard the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce awarded GM’s Chevrolet Suburban a star on the Walk of Fame. What if I told you that not that not only is their no physical star for the Chevrolet Suburban in Hollywood, Calif. but the star they got isn’t even for the Hollywood Walk of Fame!

Earlier last week I wrapped up a couple of days in Southern California with my family for some R&R. Since most of our time was in Orange County, I planned our stop in Hollywood on the way home on the last day. Remembering that Chevrolet has a star somewhere near Highland, I jotted down the bit of information to locate it, mainly that it’s underneath the Dolby Arches.

When I got there, to the spot where the star for the Chevrolet Suburban was supposed to be, it was nowhere to be found. I cross-referenced the press release photos and, no dice. There was no star for the Suburban, anywhere.

I called the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce on a whim because maybe they placed the star somewhere else. Thankfully, someone answered. I don’t remember the rep’s exact words but the C of C informed me GM took their star with them back to HQ and, in all likelihood, their star is at their home in Detroit, not in Hollywood.

It was bittersweet to find out, I was miffed I couldn’t strike a cheesy pose near the Suburban star but at least I had some official info to share with ya’ll.

This is what I saw when I got to the Dolby Arches, some stars, but none for the Chevrolet Suburban.

Where the Hollywood WOF Star for the Chevrolet Suburban should’ve been.

And earlier today I found out that the star GM got isn’t even a Hollywood Walk of Fame Star. Although dozens of media outlets called it a HWOF star, even in their official press release GM explicitly says

Today, the Chevrolet Suburban became the first vehicle ever awarded an Award of Excellence star at Hollywood & Highland.

It’s an Award of Excellence star, not a Hollywood Walk of Fame star.

That bit of pub trivia was further confirmed by their rep on Twitter for the same award given to the Los Angeles Dodgers. At least the Dodgers kept their star in Hollywood.

While I hunted around for this star like some wise guy (or wise men if you will) my family enjoyed their time watching tourists take photos in front of the Dolby Steps, the home of the Oscars, so the morning wasn’t exactly a total waste. We later got some overly expensive Vietnamese good nearby but that’s another story.

So, I hope you won’t be like me, hunting around for the HWOF star for the Chevrolet Suburban because you won’t find it, at least nowhere in Hollywood.
