If you add power to your stock C8, upgrading your axles might be in your future.

Texas Tuners LG Motorsports hoped to be the first nitrous-equipped C8 Corvette in the world to make solid pass down the quarter-mile but on the third run of the night, spraying a 100-shot in second, one axle snapped, ending their runs for the weekend.

Check out a couple of Instagram posts with some highlights from the weekend below.

TX2K has officially come to an end, and we have had fun every inch of the way! We thoroughly enjoyed talking to hundreds racers, spectators, and crew members about the car today. Ideally first testing is done at a private track day but it was raining in Dallas and we were anxious so we drove the C8 from our facility in Anna, TX straight to the event in Houston, TX & got started! We began with a pass naturally aspirated leaving off of the foot brake without launch control performing a 12.11 at 118. It came time for our 2nd pass which we decided to do on spray because of our very limited number of runs. The car didn’t like spraying in first and would not shift to second until we let off the nitrous and the throttle. We ran a 12.09 but at 124. Later in the night we got the chance to run the car one more time, the car left the line great, hit the nitrous in second to which the passenger side axle said no thanks. It sucks but these are the experiences that we draw from to guide our customers on their vehicles. We want to thank all of our friends at @nitrousexpress who provided us with the first LT2 dedicated nitrous plate system, and all of our friends on and off the track that supported us today and continue to do so! We thank you for choosing LG Motorsports!

Like dozens of other C8 reservers, new C8s made their way to customers throughout the United States. LG Motorsports got theirs and immediately installed a Nitrous Express Wet Plate system before pulling some dyno runs. LG Motorsports didn’t quote any hard numbers but 1320_Video mentioned on their stories that they supposedly put down 550 HP, I’m assuming that’s spraying.

LG Motorsports confirmed to me on Instagram that their dyno run was 100 shot so perhaps that’s the same amount of nitrous they sprayed on the third pass of the day.

Their first pass of the day was against a new MKV Toyota Supra and just off the foot brake, no launch control, LG was able to get a 12.11 at 118 MPH. Their second pass was a tough one with spray where they managed a 12.09 at 124 MPH.

Then, on their third pass

“Later in the night we got the chance to run the car one more time, the car left the line great, hit the nitrous in second to which the passenger side axle said no thanks. It sucks but these are the experiences that we draw from to guide our customers on their vehicles.”

I’m not sure on the availability of spare parts at the moment but, with any other car, spare axles are something you bring along to the track. A quick search online yields no new C8 axles available.

There are many factors as to why this axle snapped, including but not limited to too much power, too much grip, severe wheel hop, or just something way over my head. Or maybe these axles just aren’t strong enough above a certain power level.

If so, this might be a problem for some car enthusiasts as a tidal wave of OBD2 tuners, intakes, exhausts, headers, and other add-ons will hit the market soon. With a proper tune, that means added power for this LT2 headed straight to those axles.

One Texas 2K attendee caught the moment the LG Motorsports C8 was unceremoniously towed off the track.

Hopefully, LG can drop a video of this pass and offer their own insight on what happened.
