These Ohio Tuners are the first C8 Corvette owners in the world to dip into the 10s for the quarter mile.
Ohio Tuners Carlyle Racing entered the history books earlier today (Mar. 15,2020) and became the first C8 Corvette owners to dip into the 10s for a quarter mile pass. With the right set-up, good track conditions at Ohio’s Marion County Raceway, and help from a 50-shot of nitrous, this LT2 equipped mid-engined supercar made it look almost too easy to dip below 11 seconds.
Check out their post below including a longer video of their runs and setup.
If you go back a couple of blog posts you’ll know Carlyle Racing dyno’d their C8 Corvette and hit 440 WHP stock before the 500-mile break-in period was over. All things being equal, adding a 50-shot of nitrous probably bumped this C8 close to 500 at the wheels.
Compare this run to Texas Tuners LG Motorsports who attempted the 1320, under different conditions and with a 100 shot, only managed a 12.09 before they broke an axle. To be fair they did mention the stock tune on an LT2 doesn’t respond to nitrous as well as they like so perhaps Carlyle racing learned a lesson from LG Motorsports before attempting their run.
Keep in mind this C8 Corvette is basically stock. All they’ve done is add-on a set of lighter wheels all-around and stuck on a pair of slicks out back. Also, this is just the Z51 Stingray, the base Corvette. It’s no secret Chevrolet will bring out a spicier Z06 and an almighty ZR1 with enough power and grip to put the fear of God into those C8 owners.
Commenters mentioned that, under the right conditions, a stock C8 Corvette with no nitrous can dip into the 10s all day long, no problem and I fully believe that.
Congrats, Carlyle Racing. It won’t be long before someone takes these Z51’s into the 9’s and lower.
