CBS Sacramento reported earlier yesterday (Apr. 13,2020) that CHP responded to a report of a sideshow breaking out at the intersection of Florin Road and Palmer House Drive. Upwards of 150 cars showed up with dozens of CHP vehicles and their officers responding within minutes. One Chevrolet Camaro driver tried to flee the scene but crashed into an Interceptor blocking his path.

And, thanks to footage from South Sacramento resident Sammy Tran, he captured the exact moment the Camaro driver tried to flee but ended up crashing into that aforementioned police SUV, getting himself arrested.

Check out CBS Sacramento’s video report below and then watch Sammy’s video next. The Camaro crashes at 1:10.

In Sammy’s video we see that Camaro driver evade one police car, then swing wide to avoid hitting another Interceptor in his way. The Camaro isn’t exactly a nimble car on cold tires so he oversteers and clips the police Interceptor.

In CBS’s video we see that Camaro driver being arrested, his Camaro, more than likely headed to the salvage yard after its owner gets out of holding and retrieves his car out of impound.

Palmer House Dr. and Florin Rd is smack dab in the middle of a densely populated suburban part of Sacramento between Lindale and Ponderosa South. To these sideshow organizers, it doesn’t matter that there’s a national pandemic going on or that it’s Easter Sunday and some police officers and essential employees just want an easy Sunday to relax. Someone decided they’d take advantage of this opportunity to swing their cars around an intersection for fun.

Even with one police car on scene warning dozens of cars at the scene to disperse with 20 cop cars on the way, one or two cars continued to drift.

Finally, when several police vehicles showed up, like roaches scattering when the lights turn on, side show participants and cars tried to leave all at once.

Californians opting to go out and take part in a sideshow is indicative of a larger problem in our individualistic, self-centered American society. It’s the reason this “Shelter in place” order is lasting longer than it has too and is an attitude that’s not going away soon.

As Sammy so aptly put, “These idiots, I hope they go to jail.”
