It looks like this Florida man with a Lincoln welder beat Ford making the world’s first Hybrid muscle car.

No single man should have this much welding power. Florida man David Phinney posted up his magnum opus on the “Like photoshop, but with welding” Facebook group earlier today (Aug 17, 2020,) a 2010 Prius-powered Mustang. You read that correctly, this God of welding chopped the roof off a Prius, took a classic Mustang body he had lying around, and welded it on top of a Prius chassis creating the world’s only hybrid Mustang.

Check out a screenshot of his post on the Facebook group and a gallery of photos below.

Phinney was light on details, but his photos provide a good-enough storyline highlighting the project’s milestones. Why he chopped up a perfectly good Prius? I can only assume this one was headed to the salvage yard, its body repairs much more than the hybrid was worth.

It looks like Phinney took a laser level and sawzall to the entire top-half of the prius.

If you feel bad about the Mustang, this is what it looked like before. After a hard life as a mud bogger, there wasn’t a rotisserie restoration in this Mustang’s life.

To make this a running and driving car, heaps of massaging, welding, and extending made this car a reality. Keen eyes will notice there isn’t much of a steering column extending from the firewall.

According to Phinney,

I had to extend the steering column out and I will have to do the same to the pedals…

And you’d think the wheelbases would be miles apart, but when questioned, Phinney insists the difference between the two is about one inch.

Considering how large the Mustang wheelwells are, one inch is well within tolerances of this project’s ambitious goals.

From his comments, this project is not 100 percent up and running, but it’s close.

Can you imagine the looks on people’s faces when he drives by?

I sincerely hope he slaps on a nice paint job and buttons up the interior somewhat. A mashup of this level deserves it.
