All this over a connectivity issue.
If you ever wondered how complex modern seats are, this photo of the business end of a Jeep Grand Wagoneer seat, disassembled to diagnose a problem, makes it both quite clear and just a tad daunting.

According to the tech assigned with this problem the customer stated that the video screen was not working, it simply wasn’t coming on.
This repair was to, “fix a loose connection between the video routing module and the screen.”
This meant opening up the rear of the seats to power probe around (yes that’s the technical term for the tool,) locate the loose connection, and….fix it.
As you can see, modern day seats do a lot more than recline and slide back and forth.
For a luxury Jeep that starts at above $60K, it better.
Here’s what the seats look from the front and rear.
According to Jeep these front seats have,
- 14-way adjustable capability
- Power recline
- Power height adjustment
- Power fore/aft
- Power cushion tilt
- Power cushion extension
- Power seatback side bolster
- Massaging lumbar support
- Ventilation
- Heating
- 1 of 3 LCD Monitors
It might look nightmarish but all the wiring and vacuum tubing for the massaging mechanism is properly laid out, is routed as efficiently as it can given the space, and is probably less complex compared to luxury seats from other marquees (Mercedes, BMW, Lexus, and etc.)
Each color wire probably goes to an individual motor that controls each power capability listed above.
That snail-looking thing in the center is probably the
It also illustrates how, if you don’t have a good grasp of basic electronics and wiring, if you plan to work as a tech today, you’re going to come up against a steep learning curve when similar repairs start rolling in.
And, for regular Grand Wagoneer owners, if you’re monitor starts flickering or goes out, this sight is in your future.
