If caught, this driver might’ve been looking down the barrel of a $1,000 ticket.
Presumed Tar Heel and Redditor /u/DerpyDingus posted up facepalm inducing dashcam footage from Winston-Salem taken earlier in April showing this doofus going the wrong way into traffic just so he could cut the median to get his McDonald’s fix.
Check out the dashcam video below.
[OC] idiot with a trailer goes in oncoming lanes to avoid a median… just to get McDonalds
byu/DerpyDingus inIdiotsInCars
The incident happened across the McDonald’s in the 3400 block of Robinhood Rd. in Winston-Salem (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As OP’s video shows, he’s exiting McDonald’s onto Robinhood Rd when he’s suddenly blocked by a driving in a truck towing a utility trailer going the wrong way into his lane.
Where’s this guy going where he’d risk a reckless driving charge? McDonald’s, too.
Here’s a birds-eye view of the intersection and the path he took to avoid the median less than 80 meters away, saving him, a minute, maybe?
“Nowadays, traffic rules are just suggestions. One-way roads, stop signs, and red lights are treated as optional by a disturbingly large minority of drivers,” /u/Nayuki commented.
“Mcdonalds needs their grass mowed too…,” /u/itcouldbeme_3 added.
In North Carolina (like most states), knowingly driving the wrong way against traffic is some form of reckless driving subject to a fine up to $1,000 and up to 30 days in jail.
It might seem innocent, but bad driving habits like this almost always catch up to the driver in the worst way, often involving other innocent drivers, too.
Sure, he’s able to get away with it here, but what if he pulls a similar move against faster moving traffic, a move he’s apt to do, emboldened by his previous experiences?
Do yourself a favor, negotiate a complicated U-Turn (if you’re pulling a trailer) up ahead, and do it right the first time.
