This Lexus driver gained zero time using the bike lane to cut off this driver.

Socal resident and Redditor /u/Lumpy-Marsupial-6617 posted equal parts frustrating and embarrassing dashcam footage (of the other driver) from earlier in July (July 14, 2024) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a driver in a Lexus IS 250 (7XMF284) using the bike lane to cut him off on this single lane street.

Check out the dashcam video for yourself below.

[Heaboli HP88] Lexus Driver Rides in Bike Lane to Cut Me Off for Going Speed Limit (Long Beach, California-Douglas Park)
byu/Lumpy-Marsupial-6617 inDashcam

The incident happened off the 3700 block of Cover St. in Long Beach, CA in Douglas Park (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As OP’s dashcam footage shows, he’s driving along Cover St. when he comes to a stop at the intersection.

OP points out that the speed limit in this business park is 30 MPH.

Apparently, that’s too slow for some drivers as, nine seconds after OP pulls away from the stoplight, a driver in a Lexus IS 250 uses the bike lane to pass and cut off OP.

This is illegal in California, a violation of Vehicle Code 21209.

In California, breaking this part of the CVC is subject to a base fine of $238 before fees and one point on your record.

All was for naught as, at the next roundabout, the Lexus was forced to stop and yield to traffic already there.

License Plate: 7XMF284

Time saved?

None.

“Clearly that person is more important than everyone else and can’t be bothered to follow the law. That’s for “lesser” people,” /u/DavyB commented.

“I know right where this is, I drive that street to get from Lakewood Bl to the ice rink. People drive like a**holes all the time, right on my tail even if I’m going 5 over the limit. I’m surprised the Lexus even yielded at the roundabout,” /u/xxrancid13xx added.

“So much drama in the LBC,” /u/similar_observation replied.

It’s never worth pulling harebrained moves like this.

You almost always never save time.

And, even if you do, it’s mere seconds, not worth the added risks of an accident and/or fines.
