Despite getting a warning honk, this stop sign runner ran the stop sign anyway.

Floridian and Redditor /u/DupaGoblin shared dashcam footage from earlier last week (Sept 14, 2024) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing the harebrained moment a driver on Hazeltine National Dr. disregarded a stop sign, despite a warning honk from OP, and got instantly pulled over as a result.

Check out his dashcam footage below.

I tried to warn him.

The incident took place near the intersection of Hazeltine National Dr. and TPC Blvd in Orlando, FL (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As his dashcam footage shows, he’s driving along Hazeltine National Dr following a driver in a Chevrolet Cruze.

The driver in the Cruze approaches the aforementioned intersection and, instead of slowing to a stop, continues to drive forward.

/u/DupaGoblin gives the Cruze driver a warning honk, not because he saw a cop up ahead, but because he was concerned about what would happen if a car they can’t see at the moment drives through at the same time the Cruze driver runs the stop sign.

UNbeknowst to both drivers, there’s a cop up ahead at the intersection seeing all this play out.

“I didn’t even know it was a cop,” /u/DupaGoblin clarifies.

“I was worried about them possibly causing an accident.”

The Cruze driver runs the stop sign and, in a show of instant karma, the police officer sees this, flips a u-turn, and puts on his reds and blues pulling the offending driver over.

“I hope they learned their lesson. It could have just been an honest mistake. I just thought the timing and convenient op was great.”

Other Redditors pointed out how it’s a bad design to place a stop sign, especially unlighted, at an intersection with four lanes.

“What a terrible intersection. A stop sign on a road with 4 lanes going in one direction is not appropriate. How are there no traffic lights?,” /u/informationOk3060 commented.

“I don’t blame the driver one bit, he’s probably distracted trying to see if there are traffic lights out or something.”

“Man, I had to rewatch it to notice the stop sign. They should just put lights there if there are 4 lanes,” /u/BleDancePants pointed out.

Perhaps Orlando officials should, at the very least, light up this particular stop sign or, as another Redditor suggested, put one with red LED lights bordering it (as seen here.)

Stop sign runners in Florida are subject to a fine between $50-$200 before fees.
