Rules don’t apply at this Houston, TX intersection.

Houston commuter and Redditor /u/gogobevo captured some truly insane driving behavior from earlier last week (Dec 5, 2024) from Westbury, Houston showing five drivers in the span of less than 30 seconds, without hesitation, all blowing the same red light.

Check out OP’s dashcam video below with his original thread linked here.

The incident happened at the intersection of Chimney Rock Dr. and the 13500 block of S Main St (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As his dashcam video shows, he’s lined up behind backed-up traffic all trying to make it through the aforementioned intersection.

To their right is a right-turn-only lane with a sign showing strict instructions that the “Right lane must turn right.”

Right lane must turn right.

Drivers have taken that lane and sign as a suggestion as, starting at around 11 seconds, a driver blows through a red light.

And then again at 14, 29, 32, and 35 seconds.

In under 30 seconds, five drivers blow through that red light.

“Welcome to Houston, the city where everything is made up and laws don’t matter,” OP titled his thread.

“They are not just jumping the red light: they are using the right turn only lane to pass the stopped traffic at the light. Insane!,” /u/pqratusa comments.

“I hate it when someone behind me blows their horn because I refuse to run a redlight. I don’t care if it’s 2 am, I’m not doing it,” /u/Big_Dragonfruit9719 adds.

“Houston’s probably the worst area for this kind of thing, but it happens a lot in other big cities too. From my experience, it doesn’t seem as prevalent in El Paso for some reason, but I’ve seen it in DFW, San Antonio, Austin,” Texan /u/TCFJR comments.

This is not the first time OP’s posted about this intersection on the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit as, less than a month earlier, he posted this doozy showing almost the same hare-brained decisions, five cars blowing a red light in less than 30 seconds.

In Houston, red light runners are subject to a fine of up to $269 before fees and two points on your record.
