An idiot driver in Old East Dallas comes within feet of crashing head-on into dashcam owner waiting to turn.

Dallas commuter and Redditor /u/ElJacorn posted headshaking dashcam footage from the Old East Dallas neighborhood of Dallas from earlier last week (Dec 15, 2024) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a driver in a white Toyota Camry trying to use the center turn lane to merge and cut in front of traffic in the correct lane going straight.

Check out /u/ElJacorn’s dashcam video below (original Reddit thread linked here.)

The incident happened at the intersection of Peak and Live Oak (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam video shows, OP is stopped, ready to turn left onto Peak.

In front of him and to his left, a Camry, part of the traffic going straight, decides to drive down the center turn lane to cut traffic off.

Going near the speed limit, the Camry looks an awful lot like they’re headed straight for them.

OP and another passenger shout in surprise at what they thought was going to be a head-on collision.

Thankfully, the Camry driver stops in time, within feet of the front of their vehicle.

Eventually, one driver behind the Camry slows to a crawl, allowing the Camry to merge way later than they expected to.

“He didn’t even look at us… he knew he f**ked up.. Idiot,” OP added in the comments.

In Texas, the fine for using the center turn lane for passing is $202.

“Love how he thought he’d be coy and save time…nope,” /u/Solutions1978 commented.

“Took ZERO initiative to actually move into the line when people were giving space too,” /u/Craigmm114 pointed out.

Unironically, if you look at the same spot on Maps, you’ll see this fine fellow below driving down the center turn lane.

In the absence of visible enforcement, when given the opportunity to misuse lanes in a manner they weren’t intended to be used, some drivers can’t help themselves.

All the more reason, unfortunately, to stay on your toes behind the wheel.
