Accidents happen. Regardless, a simple apology is a common courtesy that doesn’t seem to exist, anymore.
Barstow patron and Redditor /u/Attention_Internal shared headshaking dashcam footage from the tail end of December (Dec 27, 2024) to the /r/DashcamGifs subreddit showing a teenage boy accidentally slamming his door into this dashcam owner’s new, 2024 car.
Despite it being an accident, the responsible parties failed to offer the smallest of apologies for the inconvenience.
Check out what happened, embedded below with the original thread linked here.
As mentioned, the incident happened in the parking lot of a Panda Express off Lenwood Rd. in Barstow, CA (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the video shows, OP is parked head first, about to back out.
Suddenly, a family in their Toyota RAV-4 can be seen backing into the spot next to them.
The teenage son opens his door and, due to the high winds, the wind catches the door, forcefully opening it and dinging OP’s new car fender, hard.
“This happened 30 seconds after I got in my car. I do not have parking mode enabled on my dash cam (as I haven’t hardwired it), so I am glad I was able to capture this.”
Here’s a photo of the damage which will likely cost their insurance more than $1,000 to repair correctly.

Mistakes happen but, when presented with an opportunity for a simple apology, the responsible family gave none.
“It was a teenager and he did not apologize. Not even his parents apologized.”
OP confirms he got their insurance information so, at the very least, they didn’t attempt to dodge responsibility.
“One winter wind storm, a gust of wind ripped the car door out of my hand. The dent to the car next to me looked similar to your pic. Anyway, I’m a responsible, adult woman. Ship happens. shrug,” /u/Isabelly907 commented.
“Three days and already had the dash cam installed. Although unfortunate, this incident shows that we need the dash cam the moment we leave the dealer,” /u/brian_d_wells pointed out.
“I’ll never buy brand new again. It seems like broke people love slamming s*** into nice cars. I park in the back and have found shopping carts slammed into my driver’s door nowhere near another vehicle or cart collection,” /u/Affectionate-Menu619 commiserated.
As mentioned by others, mistakes happen.
However, the lack of empathy and willingness to acknowledge the human in front of them seems to be the biggest issue, here.
Ironic how the one free thing, being kind, is the one thing they weren’t willing to offer.
