This dashcam owner caught the moment a reckless Nissan driver tried to change lanes but nicked a traffic attenuator separating a gore point, instead.

Pittsburgh commuter and Redditor /u/ExcitedGuy shared shocking dashcam footage from PA-8 from earlier this week (Jan 2, 2025) showing a reckless driver in a Nissan Versa recklessly changing lanes in a gore point, colliding with an impact attenuator, causing them to flip a full 180 degrees onto their roof.

Check out their dashcam footage below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

[OC] Driver gets his car flipped on a Pittsburgh bridge
byu/excitedguy inIdiotsInCars

As mentioned, the incident happened on the 62nd St. Bridge before the split between Sharpsburg and Butler (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam footage shows, OP is on PA-8 headed on the 62nd St. bridge headed towards Sharpsburg.

Suddenly, a driver in a blue Nissan Versa passes OP on the left at a higher rate of speed than traffic and proceeds to change lanes in front of a Chevrolet Express Van.

For some reason, the Versa loses control and pinballs between the bridge’s raised concrete walls.

Unfortunately, the Versa changed lanes within a gore point, not meant to be driven through, and ended up colliding with the impact attenuator placed there for that exact purpose.

The collision causes the Versa to flip on its roof, causing traffic to slow to a stop to avoid making an already bad situation worse.

The driver, distraught but seemingly physically unharmed, can be seen exiting his vehicle and taking a (dangerous) walk across stopped bridge traffic.

The driver in the Versa can be seen taking a walk to get his head in order.

A good Samaritan can be seen coaxing the Versa driver back toward relative safety.

At that point, OP drives off.

“My wife was the one driving my son home. I (the husband) am just posting it on her behalf per her request. I don’t blame her for not stopping since there was already other people offering assistance.”

“Looks like he almost missed his exit, and then missed his exit,” /u/LokiNightmare aptly put it.

“It isn’t the 1st rodeo for the guy in the Chevy : ‘no effing way I’m parking behind this mess for when the cops close the road for an hour.” /u/RapidStandardStaples commented.

“You captured the rare “got his excellent karma and nobody else was hurt” event ! Great clip,” /u/DoubleDad222 added.

OP later replied to a commenter he’s trying to get his footage to the proper authorities so they can forward it to whoever might need it.
