A moronic driver came to a screeching halt on the 280 as cars drove past them at 65+ MPH.

Bay Area driver and Redditor /u/FuriousPenguins shared galling dashcam footage from I-280 from earlier last year (Dec 24, 2024) showing an idiotic driver in their Toyota Highlander coming to a complete stop on the freeway, forcing OP to slam on their brakes to avoid rear-ending them, creating a dangerous situation for them and all traffic around them.

Their dashcam video is embedded below with their original Reddit thread linked here.

As mentioned, the incident happened on I-280 in Daly City just before the 41A exit onto Serramonte Blvd (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam footage shows, OP is driving in lane #3 of this four-lane freeway when, just before Exit 47A, he comes to a screeching halt.

A driver in a dark Red Toyota Highlander, license plate number 9ADM424, comes to a complete stop to avoid missing their exit.

9ADM424

“I can’t leave because there’s a lot of people (driving by,)” OP replies to a passenger asking why the Highlander stopped.

The driver in the HIghlander then drives over a gore point as they “exit” onto Serramonte Blvd.

“Holy s***!,” OP exclaims as they drive off.

“That driver should have their license taken away. That’s truly dangerous. What an oblivious d***,” /u/Campandfish1 comments.

“That’s how people get killed,” /u/microview aptly puts it.

“Oh my god, the horror of just going to the next junction, then turning back. Honestly, most nations with highway infrastructure usually have multiple exits to go to whichever place you are trying to get to. Or even if it didn’t, there are usually smaller roads that lead back,” /u/Ashnyel added.

The next exit would’ve been less than two miles away.

Where the nearest exit would be if they kept driving.

While this type of driving might be considered reckless, it’s impeding traffic.

Impeding traffic like this violates VC 22400(a) which prohibits stopping on California roadways.

Violators are subject to a fine of up to $238 and one point on their record.
