A semi-truck driver hauling a heavy load decided to blow through a red light and fortunately missed broadsiding turning cars.

Colorado resident and Redditor /u/BehindaLensinBigSky shared concerning dashcam footage from earlier this year (Jan 9, 2025) from Fort Collins showing a semi-truck driver hauling a heavy load decide, at the last second, to blow through this intersection instead of anticipating a red light and stopping.

Check out OP’s dashcam footage below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

As mentioned, the incident happened at the intersection of Three Bell Parkway and E Harmony Rd in Fort Collins (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As /u/BehindaLensinBigSky’s dashcam footage shows, they’re stopped at the aforementioned intersection.

They get the green light and, after a beat, start to turn left.

Halfway through a semi-truck driver with a heavy load (looks to be several, large steel pipes stacked on top of each other) blows through the red light in front of them.

A second earlier and in the other lane and OP might’ve been broadsided with disastrous results.

Thankfully, no one was affected by the semi-truck driver’s rash decision.

Several commenters suggested OP trying his best to report the driver to the proper authorities.

“Check for local DOT office and send them the video. If the DOT number is clear, they will make the company sweat a lot and the driver fined heavily or even lose CDL. There is no reason to not slow down at all for red light,” /u/D***culture suggested.

“Not defending him because he should slow down when nearing intersections in case the light does change. But he, for whatever reason, was at a point of no return and was probably better off blowing the light. He looked to be carrying something that probably weighed a lot and attempting to shortstop could cause him to lose control and swipe multiple cars with his trailer and or potentially flip,” /u/Charon711 explained, playing devil’s advocate.

“Depending on other drivers to compensate for your crappy driving is a strategy that is likely to fail in short order,” /u/Vogel-kerl aptly put it.

Red light violations doled out by an observing officer are subject to a fine of up to $100 and four points on your record.

Red light violations of the traffic camera variety are less severe at just $75 with no points.

While everyone behind the wheel should be 100% a defensive driver, paying attention behind the wheel, you should even more so be if it’s your job, especially when hauling heavy loads.

Hopefully, that was the wake-up call that semi-truck driver needs to change his driving habits.
