An alleged distracted driver rolled out of the local ScrubaDub, missed cross traffic, and came to a stop with a low-speed crash into a building.
Portland, Maine commuter and Redditor /u/DeFi_i shared intriguing dashcam footage from earlier in March (Mar 9, 2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a driver in a Toyota Camry exit this ScrubADub car wash/gas station, only to not slow for cross traffic, inevitably crashing into a building on the other side of the street.
The incident was all casually caught on dashcam; the video is embedded below, with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened at the ScrubADub Car Wash gas station in the 1200 block of Forest Ave (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the incident shows, OP is approaching and drives into Forest Ave from ME-100.
He slows and comes to a stop before the outline of rail tracks as traffic’s slowed in front of him.
Suddenly, a driver in a Toyota Camry can be observed roiling out the aforementioned business without slowing.
Thankfully, they missed cross traffic before coming to a low-speed crash into the commercial building across the street.
Keen eyes will notice what looks like a smartphone flailing around in the driver’s hand.
Was he distracted?
That supposed phone is highlighted in the red square below.

“That was not how I was expecting that to end, but it was pretty funny. I hope they weren’t having a medical emergency,” /u/TermLimit4Patriarchs hoped.
“Sir/Ma’am, that’s not a drive-in,” /u/LoyeDamnCrowe humoursly added.
“This section of Forest Ave is a nightmare to navigate but HOOOOOLY s*** this is the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen in this area (unless of course the person was having a medical emergency, in which case I’m just glad nobody was hurt),” local /u/RiskyMama added.
OP has not provided any further information on the condition of the driver and what exactly caused them to do what they did.
At least one commenter shared how something similar happened to them, chalking it up to a mechanical failure of some sort.
Best practices are detailed and comprehensive in what to do in these situations, and if you don’t know what to do, now would be a good time to review said practices.
Generally, making sure there’s nothing stuck under the accelerator pedal is step number 1.
Then, hard and gradual brake pressure (not pumping) should be applied.
Next, if the above does nothing, downshifting with your gear selector and killing the engine by shutting it off should be done.
Finally, pulling slowly but firmly on the emergency brake lever should be utilized.
