While Wisconsin has a general keep right law, blowing past a cop at 90+ MPH is grounds to get pulled over, big time.

Wisconsin commuter and Redditor /u/BlorTorbis shared dashcam footage from earlier this March (Mar 29, 2025) to the /r/ConvenientCop subreddit showing a driver in a Jeep Compass blow past an unmarked cop at speeds well past 90+ MPH and immediately regretting their decision.

[USA] Missed the obvious unmarked Trooper

The incident happened on a stretch of I-43 in and along Janisville (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As OP’s dashcam footage shows, he’s traveling in the fast lane at speeds well above the speed limit of around 83 MPH, as indicated by the dashcam.

This area of I-43 has a 70 MPH speed limit.

In front of him, a driver in a Jeep Compass is going significantly faster than the speed of traffic, pushing other drivers out of the fast lane.

As mentioned, Wisconsin does have a keep right law where “Drivers proceeding slower than the normal speed of traffic must drive in the right.”

So, while you can be actively passing other vehicles in the fast lane, technically you can’t be going above the speed limit to do so.

The driver in the Compass comes up to a dark colored Dodge Charger that won’t budge.

Not wanting to wait, the Compass driver changes lanes and overtakes the Charger on the right at speeds well past 90 MPH.

Big mistake, as the Charger is an unmarked police officer.

The, presumably, Wisconsin State Patrol officer paces the Compass, turns on his reds and blues, and begins to pull over the Compass.

“My dad always called that kind of driver the rabbit. They hop ahead and flush out the fox. Then they get eaten and you don’t,” the top comment from /u/worrymon reads.

“In before 50 people mob the comments and start sh***ing their pants that the left lane is the Mad Max lane that you are morally and religiously obligated to do 130 miles an hour in, and anybody who doesn’t needs to be fed to wild hogs and then the hogs need to be air dropped into the Arctic oceans and finished off with several rounds of naval bombardment,” /u/AntManCrawledInA*us hilariously added.

“That cop is shady af, man. Squatting in the left lane like that is complete trash & would’ve gotten him pulled over in my state,” /u/fargoLEVY13 controversially added commented.

In Wisconsin, speeding at speeds between 20-24 MPH above the posted limit results in a $225.70 base fine. Where it really hits the violates is a whopping 6 points on their driving record.
