This idiot in their Toyota Highlander pulled a no-look u-turn where it’s not allowed and almost got sideswiped as a result.

Maricopa commuter and Redditor /u/BigBoi63789 shared absolutely headshaking dashcam footage from earlier last week (May 7, 2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing an idiot driver making a no-look U-Turn where they’re not supposed causing OP to make a last-second swerve, narrowly avoiding hitting them.

Check out the dashcam footage embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened on a stretch of AZ-347 (John Wayne Parkway) that intersects Lakeview Dr. and Cobblestone Farms Dr (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As OP’s dashcam footage shows, OP approaches the intersection at around 53 MPH, which is technically speeding for the area.

The speed limit in this section is 45 MPH.

Suddenly, and in the middle of the intersection, some idiot in a purple Toyota Highlander pops a U-turn when there’s signage, on both sides, specifically prohibiting U-turns to begin with.

Here’s what that looked like from the Highlander driver’s POV.

No U-turns here.

OP does what he has to do and swerves out of the way at 50 MPH, narrowly avoiding clipping the Highlander driver.

Thankfully, there wasn’t another driver in the other lane.

OP regains their composure and changes back to their original lane.

“What a moron; u-turn where it’s prohibited and on a red light to boot,” the top comment from /u/_jump_yossarian reads.

“Good reminder that steering is just as, if not more, important as braking to avoid accidents,” /u/civil_politics added.

“While I agree with others that you should prolly ease up on the accelerator a bit, props to you for avoiding that and not losing your s***, big guy. Pretty damn smooth,” /u/PHXplz pointed out.

In Arizona, illegal U-turns carry a fine of around $50-$300, depending on what county you’re in.

In Coconino, for example, violators are subject to a $262 fine.

Speed limits, reigning in higher limits to slower ones near busy intersections, are in place for this exact reason, giving motorists more of a cushion to react to more traffic.

Regardless, making a U-turn where you’re not supposed to isn’t just careless, it’s downright dangerous.

Hopefully, that other driver learned a valuable lesson from that near miss, but I have my doubts.
