Letting GPS re-route would’ve saved this idiot from totaling his car.
San Antonio commuter and Redditor /u/Presolutions shared headshaking dashcam footage from US-87 from earlier this May (May 16, 2025) showing an idiot making a last second lane change to get back onto the freeway only to miscalculate his move, causing him to crash into a sand barrier at the end of a gore point, hard, likely totaling his car.
Check out his dashcam footage recorded after the fact embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened on US-87 as this driver attempted to undo his exit towards 154B towards S Laredo St. and Cevallos St (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As OP’s footage shows, he’s driving on US-87.
In front of him is a driver in a white Ford Explorer heading towards Exit 154B and, at the last second, tries to merge back onto US-87.
They do so too late, crashing hard, into a traffic barrier attenuator at the end of the exit ramp’s gore point.
Sand comes flying out of the crash barrier, as intended, redirecting the Explorer back onto US-87 and likely saving that idiot’s life.
If there were no barrier, that driver would’ve slammed into the end of that concrete gore point, causing even more damage, possible injury, or worse.
Just look at that same barrier in 2011, destroyed sand barrels were scattered at the end of the gore point.

“These gender reveals are getting out of hand,” the top comment from /u/jtd2013 hilariously adds.
“And he STILL didn’t miss his exit. A bad driver never does,” /u/FL_850 comments, citing the age-old adage on this subreddit that a bad driver never misses their exit.
Several Redditors believe this driver didn’t try to change lanes last second and might’ve been distracted.
“I don’t think he decided to change lanes. I think he finally looked up from his phone and saw that the road had turned and he hadn’t,” /u/emma7734 replies, giving an alternative and likely explanation for their hare-brained move.
Regardless, last-second lane change or simply not paying attention, either action means taking an unnecessary risk.
Now, that driver is out of a car.
But, as mentioned, that barrier, being there very well might’ve saved their life.
