This idiot commuter assumed, once their signal is on, everything besides them will be clear.
Pittsburgh commuter and Redditor /u/Chrissy369 shared a classic Parkway moment from earlier last week (May 31, 2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit, showing what they call a typical “Me first, no matter what” driver brute forcing their lane change without yielding properly, almost sideswiping OP as a result.
Check out their dashcam video embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
As mentioned, the incident happened on the Penn-Lincoln Parkway (I-376) just before Exit 77, before the Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As OP’s dashcam footage shows, it’s a rain-soaked morning, meaning cars should be extra cautious around each other.
Such is not the case as a driver in a Jeep Liberty pulls off a simultaneous signal/ lane change, meaning, right as they hit their signal stalk, they immediately start changing lanes.
It’s clear they didn’t even look over their shoulder as they almost sidewipe OP.
OP honks, and both drivers adjust to avoid hitting each other.
Thankfully, nothing came of the incident, and both escaped unscathed.
“I hate commuting through here every day. I don’t mind the backed-up traffic as much because I anticipate it now, but so many drivers just don’t pay attention,” OP replied to a comment on how this particular section of the 376 is horrible with a combined entrance/exit ramp right in front of the tunnel.
“It doesn’t matter if someone else is already in the left lane, I wanna pass this guy NOW,” /u/UnderwaterAlienBar so aptly described the Jeep driver’s lane change philosophy.
“Using mirrors and turn signals are illegal in the US…/s,” /u/Pyewacket62 sarcastically added.
Unsafe lane changes like this are a violation of § 3334. Turning movements and required signals which states that,
“…no person shall turn a vehicle or move from one traffic lane to another or enter the traffic stream from a parked position unless and until the movement can be made with reasonable safety…”
Violators are often subject to a fine of $94 before fees. It’s not clear if points are assessed, too.
