The passenger can be seen doing something towards the driver’s side a second before the Altima spins out.
NorCal commuter and Redditor /u/pumpnut shared shocking dashcam footage from I-80 from earlier last week (June 20, 2025) showing the moment a driver in a Nissan Altima almost lost control, doing a full 360 spin, before, surprisingly, regaining control and supposedly driving on.
Check out the dashcam footage embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened on I-80 in Fairfield, just outside of Vacaville (location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam footage shows, OP is driving along I-80 in Lane #2.
In his rearview, you can see a driver and passenger in a blue Nissan Altima approach.
A split second before the incident, you can make out the passenger riding shotgun do something.
It’s not clear, but other commenters have their theories.
“Looks like there as some movement from the passenger side to the driver side right before the maneuver started,” /u/TheSpineless comments.
” Passenger leans over right before the spin starts; car was moving pretty much straight beforehand. It’s possible, even likely, he grabbed the wheel for some reason. I could be imagining it, but the Altima miiiight be gently drifting toward the wall before the spin. Perhaps the passenger grabbed the wheel and overcorrected because the driver wasn’t paying attention,” a more thorough analysis from UCutter9792 adds.
What happens next is nothing short of extraordinary.
The Altima steers away from the wall, at which point, the driver tries to re-center himself.
However, he overcorrects, loses control, and does a full 360 spin.
Miraculously, the driver regains control and continues on?
“He kept on driving, but switched to the right lane and slowed down, fading away in my rear view. I was expecting him to get back on the gas and retry his maneuver. Thankfully, he didn’t.”
Thankfully, nothing of consequence happened except for some soiled undergarments, but it could’ve been a lot worse.
