This Dashcam owner did not back down and insisted that this idiot turn into a nearby parking lot to re-route.

Downtown Richmond Lyft driver and Redditor /u/Fangs_McWolf shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier this May (May 31, 2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a driver going the wrong way down W Clay St who was eventually forced to re-route thanks to this dashcam owner holding their ground.

Check out the dashcam footage embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

[OC] Guy driving wrong way thinks I should let them pass.

As mentioned, the incident happened on W Clay St next to Scotty’s Taphouse in the greater downtown Richmond Area (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As OP’s dashcam footage shows, he’s driving along W Clay St, a one-way street, just before midnight.

“I was going to pick someone up (Lyft.)”

Suddenly, the bright lights of a Chrysler 200 can be seen swinging wide past a double-parked truck and towards OP despite it being one-way.

OP, headed to a parking spot to the left to pick up a waiting rider, begins to angle towards said spot but comes front bumper to front bumper with the wrong-way driver.

“I had the spot on the left to gain, which was my destination,” OP explained to a commenter claiming OP had nothing to gain from this “confrontation.”

“They (the wrong-way driver) obviously wanted me to let them through, but I wouldn’t budge. Busy area, making it unsafe as it was, but going the wrong way made things worse.

For the next 40 seconds, both drivers stopped and practically stared at each other, but with the wrong-way driver, well, in the wrong, it’s their responsibility to turn around and right the situation.

Eventually, we see the wrong-way driver turn into a nearby parking lot to head the right way down Clay, and that’s where the video ends.

“Hell yeah, (they) should’ve turned off as soon as they realized they f***ed up,” the top comment from /u/revaric reads.

“Yeah. I stood my ground since I wasn’t about to encourage bad behavior by rewarding it. He eventually turned into a parking lot. Not sure how he expected things to play out since there was traffic in both lanes, so it’s not like me letting him through would have made much difference,” OP replied.

“Well, you clearly don’t understand how important an individual he is. Rules only apply to the peasant class,” /u/Malthus17 sarcastically added.

In Virginia, driving the wrong way down a one-way street is a traffic infraction with an $81 fine before all the fees.
