A driver in a Toyota Camry pulled out into another lane without checking if it was clear, causing a major accident.
St. Louis County commuter and Redditor /u/NeverLiveInDoubt shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier last week (July 9, 2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars showing a driver in a new blue Toyota Camry making an unsafe lane change, resulting in a multi-vehicle accident.
Check out the dashcam video below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident occurred on I-270, just before Exit 20A, heading towards 70 East/West (Kansas City and St. Louis).
As the dashcam video shows, a driver in a blue Camry makes a sudden lane change that no one was expecting, as evidenced by what happens next.
A driver in a silver BMW SUV immediately next to the lane changing Camry swerves out of the way to avoid an accident, but they themselves swerve into a driver in a Mazda crossover.
They hit hard.

The Mazda spins out of control and does a full 180, eventually slamming into the side of a traffic barrier, while the driver in the BMW unfortunately gets re-directed to stopped traffic.
The silver BMW t-bones another driver in a black Ford Escape so hard that their side impact airbags go off, but ricochets back into traffic before coming to a stop.
In total, three crossovers were affected.
And that driver in a blue Toyota Camry? Doesn’t even stop, just keeps going.
OP’s dashcam is being used as evidence to try to locate the driver.
It sounds promising, given OP’s footage in full resolution is clear enough to make out a plate.
Thankfully, it looks like no one involved suffered anything serious.
“As far as I was told, there were no serious injuries. Just shaken up,” OP replied to a comment asking if all involved made it out OK.
“Obviously, it’s human nature to react. But if you don’t have the ability to swerve to avoid an accident, it’s better to hit the idiot. Because that puts them at fault. Unfortunately, if you swerve to avoid an accident and cause another accident, you can be found at fault,” /u/eaglescout1984 pointed out.
“I worked in auto insurance claims for a bit and you are 100% correct,” /u/OK-implement4608 concurred.
Changing lanes without looking is not only a bad habit, as this video shows, it’s extremely dangerous, with consequences that range from minor accidents to life-altering.
In this case, on top of all the insurance work between all parties’ insurances, three drivers and whoever uses their vehicles are out of a car for the time being, and that’s with no injuries (fortunately.)
While no one plans for an accident, it’s best to brake as hard as you can and keep going in a straight line if, in that split second, you’re not 100% sure you can avoid another one with an evasive maneuver.
And this is yet another data point for a dashcam.
As for those that resort to hit-and-run or miss-and-run, the proliferation of cameras everywhere makes that option less likely not work out in your favor.
In Missouri, those who leave the scene of an accident commit a misdemeanor with a fine of up to $10,000, depending on injuries, property damage, and violators’ previous convictions.
That Camry driver will surely get his comeuppance.
MODOT must change this intersection. Putting double white lines is not an answer. The exit to east bound 70 needs to be separated before the west exit begins. Check out how the exit to Lindbergh on west 70 is done. This is much safer. The exit for Hwy 64 is not much better but it is a little better. MODOT using high fine areas to try to improve safety is useless. They are finally fixing south 55 in Jefferson County which has been a high wreck area for decades. Hwy 70 and 44 are very dangerous across Missouri. The state needs to spend the money to fix the dangerous roads.
