This driver in a Jeep was inches away from making a big and expensive collision.

SoCal driver and Redditor /u/FailedNinja24 shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier last week (July 25, 2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing this driver in a Jeep not paying attention when turning, almost colliding with OP in what would’ve been one big and expensive collision.

Check out the dashcam footage below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened at the intersection of Cypress St. and N Dodsworth Ave. in Covina near the boundary line of Charter Oak (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam footage shows, OP is minding his own business driving down Cypress St.

As he comes up to the aforementioned intersection, a driver in a Jeep Wrangler signals to turn left onto Dodsworth, but, with OP headed his way, OP has the right of way, and the onus is on the driver in the Jeep to let him through before turning.

For some reason only God knows, the driver in the Jeep attempts to turn, perhaps in some dumb game of chicken?

OP swerves out of the way ever so slightly, and they miss each other by inches.

Absolutely unnecessary on the part of the Jeep owner.

His reason? Looking distracted looking at directions, presumably on his phone.

“Damn. I don’t know how he could even miss seeing you coming. The field of view was completely wide open. Even if he was distracted by his phone or something else, he would have had to look to see where his intended turn was,” /u/HoobesNJ asked.

“He said he was looking at directions on his phone,” OP replied.

Thankfully, everyone made it out of the situation OK, and it looks like the driver in the Jeep learned a valuable lesson, mainly to PAY ATTENTION and keep your hands off your phone behind the wheel.

“Great defensive driving! 😅,” /u/WickedJigglyPuff complimented.

“They were probably distracted by their ducks,” /u/Thirsty_Comment88 added, referencing Jeep owners and their affinity for rubber ducks.

Getting caught with your cellphone while driving in CA is punishable by a fine of around $160 after all the fees. No points are added to your record.
