The wrong-way driver likely entered an I-25 off-ramp with between 9-10 Wrong Way Do Not Enter Signs.
CanAm Highway commuter and Redditor /u/sinkrate shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier last week (Aug 4, 2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a wrong-way driver on I-25 almost headed straight at him.
Check out the late-night/early morning near miss below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
As mentioned, the incident happened on a stretch of the Can Am Highway, aka U.S. Route 85/I-25 in Las Vegas, NM (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam footage shows, OP is driving down I-25 when he sees the bright lights of a wrong-way driver headed towards him.
Being in the middle of the night, OP flashes his brights at him just as the wrong-way driver passes.
A little search on maps shows the likely off-ramp this driver entered.
As this screenshot shows, this off-ramp has multiple DO NOT ENTER signs, up to 10, all of which this driver ignored.
It looks like OP’s headlight flashing worked as while OP was on the phone with 911, he noticed the driver turn around.
“They stopped and turned around as I was on the phone with 911,” OP clarified.
Thankfully, this happened in the middle of the night with light traffic as, otherwise, the chances of an accident would’ve been higher.
“Fun fact: most of those yellow reflectors are red on the back side….indicating that you’re going the wrong direction,” /u/Outlaw11901 pointed out, even further driving home how clueless this driver must’ve been.
“If they passed that many signs, either they are drunk, stoned, or suicidal and is looking for a big Mack truck,” /u/Warcraft_Fan concluded.
In New Mexico, wrong-way drivers are treated as reckless, subject to a fine and points commensurate with a Class 4 felony. As such, violatores are subject to a fine of up to $100 before fees, up to 90 days in jail, 6 points on their driving record, and possible license suspension.
