This driver’s carelessness and impatience cost him one expensive insurance headache.

Livingston Parish commuter and Redditor /u/Cat_9719 shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier in August (Aug 19,2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing an impatient driver making the harebrained decision to turn right from a lane that only goes straight, causing them to get into an accident with a car already waiting patiently to turn.

It’s worth noting that this is his friend’s footage.

Check out the dashcam footage embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened at the intersection of Arnold Rd/ LA-1025 and LA-16 in Denham Springs (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam shows, OP’s buddy is waiting behind traffic at the aforementioned intersection.

A driver in a dark Chevrolet Malibu in front of him slips out and changes lanes into the right turn-only lane.

Shortly after, OP’s buddy moves up to get behind a driver in a dark colored Honda Accord.

For some reason, with the light still red and in the lane that only goes straight, the Accord driver begins to turn right.

While Louisiana allows right turns on red, the Accord driver isn’t even in the right lane!

The Accord driver starts to turn right but clips the right front fender and tire of the driver in the Chevrolet Malibu.

In the process, they end up driving over the hood of the Malibu, causing thousands in damage before slamming back to the ground.

The Accord driver completes their turn and pulls over, presumably to assess damage and begin the long insurance process of exchanging information and documenting damage.

“Well, I didn’t see that coming,” the top comment from “/u/Elensea reads.

“The Honda Accord isn’t using a turn signal, and is not stopped in a position that implies anything other than the idea that they’re going straight. The Chevy Malibu isn’t even moving when the Accord driver ramps up over their front end. I say the fault lies firmly on the driver of the Honda Accord, but I’d be curious to see how the police and insurance companies feel,” /u/deaverosstheboss added.

“Least worst Livingston Parish driver,” local /u/ThatGuy798 replied.

While many in the comments wondered whose at fault, I’m just going to say it, the Accord driver is obviously and 100% to blame here.

In Louisiana, turning right from a lane designated solely for straight-through traffic is considered an illegal or prohibited turn. If this maneuver leads to an accident, the driver may face fines ranging from $152 to $191, depending on the jurisdiction.

In Livingston Parish, the above applies, and, with an accident, the base fine increases to $250. This, of course, all depends if an officer sees it happen.
