The parents of Madonna Del Sasso students need a refresher on how to conduct themselves in parking lots so it’s safe for everyone.
Salinas driver and Redditor /u/Macho-Man-Randy shared headshaking dashcam footage from the parking lot of this Catholic School from earlier in August (Aug 22, 2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing multiple parents dropping off their kids, disregarding the unofficial rules of parking lot driving, just busting out into the main driver lanes without yielding whatsoever.

As mentioned, the incident happened at the Madonna Del Sasso Catholic School off of Maryal Dr (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
Here’s the overhead view of the parking lot.
According to Berg Injury Lawyers,
“In California, the default rule for parking lots is that the driver who is in the flow of traffic has the right of way. This means the driver traveling in the main lane has the right of way over individuals pulling out of parking spaces or feeder lanes. Feeder lanes have the right of way over vehicles backing out of a parking spot.”
Although it’s a small parking lot, the main driving lanes are on either side of the feeder lanes with arrow markings showing the traffic flow.
As the dashcam shows and according to the above default rule, while it’s reasonable to wait for those mid-turn, stopped, to complete their turn from a feeder lane, drivers waiting to turn from said feeder lane should yield to OP driving past them.
A Mom in her white Volvo SUV clearly doesn’t acknowledge these unofficial rules as she can be seen busting into the main driving lane, yielding not even in her vocabulary.
“Lady stared at me like I was stupid,” the title of OP’s thread reads. Ironic, too, considering this is at a Catholic School.
Thankfully, nothing comes of the incident except some confusion and a couple of face wrinkles after hear mean mugging.
“Everyone in this video is an idiot, except OP. If you can’t fully enter your lane and not block traffic, you don’t go. End of discussion. Right of way is irrelevant at this point,” the top comment from /u/Aceramic reads.
“Parking lots are stupid. They are stupid,” /u/Most-Road-5366 aptly puts it.
“Someone leaving a church parking lot with no regard to other human beings? Honestly, I’m shocked. Next, you’re gonna tell me she’s on her way to the local diner to yell at the staff and leave no tip,” /u/EelsEverywhere sarcastically added.
While police generally don’t have jurisdiction in a private parking lot open to the public, had that woman slammed into OP, when it came time for their insurance to dole out fault, that lady would likely be on the hook for damages.
Parking lots, especially around school drop-off time, are stressful places. It would behoove everyone to take it down a notch and be hyper-aware of who has the right of way.
