The next exit was about a half mile away.

Essex County commuter and Redditor /u/DevTech shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier last week (Sept 4, 2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing the absolute worst driver practically stopping traffic on the 495 so that they didn’t miss their exit.

Check out the poor display of driving behaviour below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

[OC] I had to mute the end as I got pretty colorful with my language

The incident happened on the 495 at Exit 105 towards the 213 to the 93 Salem NH (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam footage shows, OP is driving on the 495 in Lane #2.

He changes into Lane #1 behind a driver in a silver GMC Acadia.

He saw and noticed the Acadia driver gradually slowing down before Exit 105, all the way from 65 MPH down to below 10 MPH, practically coming to a stop.

Sudden speed differentials between vehicles are a contributing factor that makes freeways that much more dangerous.

With one lane of traffic almost stopped and other traffic going, 60+ MPH, the Acadia driver set up a lot of other drivers for disaster, not to mention themselves.

The Acadia driver eventually finds a gap in the traffic and makes their way across the 495 to their exit.

As noted, the nearest next exit was just half a mile away, which would reroute this driver anyway.

From there, traffic resumes normal flow, but what a potential disaster that could’ve been.

OP intentionally muted the audio towards the end for his “pretty colorful language.”

“This exact scenario happens a lot at this specific exit for some reason. It’s funny because there’s an exit just a half mile up that turns you around pretty easily,” OP replied to a comment from another Redditor pointing out why they’d risk a potential deadly accident over missing their exit.

“I’m not going to apologize for this opinion, but I think people doing this should get suspended driver’s licenses. It is inexcusable and puts the lives of other people at risk,” /u/LWJ748 concurred.

“My horn would’ve been going the entire time. These people have room temp IQ’s with a large dose of entitlement. My brother firmly believes a good driver will make his exit no matter what and it boggles my mind,” /u/bapeandvape added.

In Massachusetts, impeding the flow of traffic and an unsafe lane change are both minor traffic violations subject to a $100 fine before fees and 2 points on your record.

Failure to drive safely, however, is a serious offense with violators subject to a fine of up to $20 before all fees, a 60-day to a year license suspension, and 5 points on your record.
