A responding officer cited both drivers for different reasons.
Maricopa County commuter and Redditor /u/Fuspo14 shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier last week (Sept 14, 2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing two drivers both trying to beat the yellow light from turning to red at the same time, resulting in both crashing into each other.
Here’s the dashcam footage embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened at the intersection of S Watson Rd. and Yuma Rd. (Exact location on Google Maps linked here)
As the dashcam shows, OP is on Watson Rd. waiting to turn left.
Cross traffic going straight and turning left soon turns from green to yellow.
Regardless, turners must still yield the right of way to traffic going straight.
A driver turning in a Nissan 350/370Z, instead of slowing and preparing to stop, clearly guns it, as evidenced by his exhaust note.
Unfortunately for them, at the same time, a driver in a Honda Accord with a yellow going straight has the same thought, too.
The driver in the Nissan collides with the driver going straight, hitting him on his side fender.
“Heading home after buying some Elote. Both cars went on yellow trying to beat the red,” OP replied in the comments.
“Driver of the car turning was okay. No injuries. Driver of the Accord had minor injuries. Myself and another person helped her out of the vehicle. Both got tickets. Him for failing to yield a turn, causing a collision resulting in injury. Her for speeding.”
OP says he did the right thing and handed a copy of the video to both victims to be used for insurance purposes.
“Good on you to stop and check on them,” /u/Kermitnirmit added.
“Phoenix intersections are crazy,” local /u/Fat_Ryan_Gosling commented.
In Maricopa County, running a red light under ARS § 28-645(A)(3)(A) comes with a $180 fine and adds 2 points to your driving record, along with mandatory Traffic Survival School. A failure to yield violation is more costly, carrying a $220 fine and 4 points on your license.
