Dashcam vid shows the dangers of assuming you’ve got the right of way when, in reality, you’re facing a red light.

Orange County driver and Redditor /u/MrET1781 shared interesting dashcam footage from earlier at the tail end of September (Sept 29, 2025) showing a driver turning left just assuming they’ve got the green turn light based on other drivers in front of them when, in reality, the driver they’re following kind of set them up to dangerously run a red instead.

Check out what was probably an honest mistake turned near miss in the embedded Reddit video below, with the original Reddit thread linked here.

Red light… are you colorblind! [OC]

The incident happened at the intersection of Jamboree Rd and Irvine Blvd (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam shows, OP is ready to head straight through the aforementioned intersection as soon as he gets the green light, which he does.

However, as is often the case at these intersections, one or several drivers, like this driver in a Ball Park Franks box truck, sneak through at the tail end of a red light and the beginning of a green one.

The driver in a box truck sets up drivers behind them to inadvertently run a red light.

Since it’s a box truck, drivers behind it can’t see the turn signal.

This driver, highlighted in red above, just assumes it’s still green when, as mentioned, the box truck driver set them up to run a red light inadvertently.

The driver without a clear view just goes and almost t-bones OP, who now has the right of way.

Thankfully, that driver realized his mistake at the nick of time and avoided getting hit.

“You might have saved that ebike guy on the right by blocking that last offender from going through,” keen-eyed /u/TheW83 noticed.

“That’s gotta be so embarrassing. It looks like he might have to wait a whole cycle in the middle,” /u/enrikes pointed out.

In Tustin, California, running a red light is a moving violation that typically carries a $490–$500 fine, which can exceed $500 with fees. It also adds 1 point to your DMV record, though eligible drivers may attend traffic school to avoid the point.
