Traffic was being rerouted around a patch of curing asphalt in front of Douglas County High School.
Douglas County driver and Redditor /u/WhatIsASW shared concerning dashcam footage from earlier last week (Oct 15, 2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing an elderly woman driver getting absolutely confused by orange construction cones set in front of traffic to reroute them around a piece of curing asphalt.
Check out his dashcam footage below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
Elderly lady in front of me couldn’t figure out traffic cone pattern in a construction zone [OC]

The incident happened along Front St., with the majority of the kerfluffle happening before Scott Blvd. (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP is driving along Front St when he and other traffic pass in front of Douglas County High School.
Not without warning and before cones rerouted traffic around a piece of road work, at least one sign and several signs before the shift in traffic warned drivers that the right lane ahead was closed.

In front of Douglas County HS, cones shift traffic to the left, routing traffic around a piece of asphalt that was likely opened up to access some plumbing.
Below is what that piece of cured asphalt looked like.

Despite all the warnings and bright colored cones, an elderly woman driver in a red Buick became confused by the shift and, instead of staying within the cones, darted into oncoming traffic.
Traffic going both directions was paying attention, with drivers doing their best to avoid hitting the confused lady.
Thankfully, nothing comes of the lady driver’s confusion, and everyone makes it out of the situation unscathed with the lady presumably rerouted back into the correct lane shortly after the video ended.
“She couldn’t figure out the traffic cone pattern, so she thought the best course of action would be to exit it into the opposite lane? Ffs it’s time to give up the driver’s license,” one of the top comments from /u/socialyawkwardpotate reads.
“The worst part is you would have gotten rear-ended and she would have made her escape scot free,” /u/grumpylazysweaty pointed out.
“Yeah, luckily the jeep behind me was paying attention too. They’re the second person you can hear honking in this video,” OP replied.
In Colorado, accidentally driving into oncoming traffic is typically treated as “driving on the wrong side of the road” or careless driving, carrying around 4 points on your license. Fines can range from a few hundred dollars up to $1,000, depending on the severity, whether there was an accident, and local court practices.
