“What’s more idiotic than running a red light?”

DuPage County commuter and Redditor /u/HotLittlePotato shared a bit of Convenient Cop to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit from earlier over the weekend (Oct 20, 2025), showing this piece of work running an extremely red light and thinking they got away with it, that is, until they realized in the best way possible a cop saw the whole thing.

Yup, they got pulled over.

Check out the case of instant karma in the video embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened at the intersection of Butterfield Rd. and Naperville Rd. (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam shows, OP is at the aforementioned intersection with turning traffic now several seconds into their own red light cycle.

OP gets the green and, despite facing a deep red, a driver in a black Honda Accord just…turns, red light be damned.

Any other time, they would’ve gotten away with what they’ve probably done dozens of times before; however, a police officer, not a couple of cars back, saw the whole thing.

The Accord didn’t get a chance to clear the intersection before the police officer, in what looks like an unmarked cruiser, jumped out into traffic to light them up and pull them over.

“Glad the cop was there because the majority of idiots who do this sadly don’t get caught,” one of the top comments from /u/Tineman5 reads.

“Yes. This happens quite a lot in this area, and there is never a cop around. This time I was sitting at the light and I saw the unmarked car pull up next to me… As soon as this guy ran the light, I turned to my left and started waving at the officer, “Get him! Get him!” He flipped his lights on and took off after the guy. It made my day!” OP replied.

In Illinois, running a red light typically results in a $100 fine. This violation is considered a non-moving violation, so it does not add points to your driving record or affect your insurance rates.
