This reckless driver attempted a right turn across two lanes, a move that nearly ended in one nasty collision.
Bay Area driver and Redditor /u/Tiberius_Jim shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier in November (Nov 15, 2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a driver in a Honda Odyssey getting into the wrong lane, only meant for going straight, and trying to pull off a right turn across two right-turn-only lanes at the very last second.
Check out the harebrained move below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident occurred along Contra Costa Blvd and culminated at the intersection with Concord Ave (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP is driving along Contra Costa Blvd.
As OP slips into a right turn only that splits into two, there’s a driver in a Honda Odyssey diagonal to him in a through lane.
Being the intuitive and defensive driver that he is, OP noticed the van slowing before the upcoming intersection.
“I saw this van slowing slightly as they approached the green light and thought to myself, ‘They’re going to do something stupid, aren’t they?’ and, well…”
His spidey senses proved true as, just a few feet from the intersection, the van made a sudden right turn across OP.
OP slams on his brakes and honks, narrowly avoiding what would’ve been one costly collision.
Thankfully, nothing comes of the close encounter, and both drivers make it out unscathed.
“Understanding car body language is an important skill. I assume anyone driving like that doesn’t have insurance, so I avoid them like the plague,” the top comment from /u/Vaincer reads.
“I always assume anyone near me is going to make a stupid decision and drive based on that,” /u/Supernatural_Redhead added.
“If anyone seems like they’re riding the lane lines, I already know what’s coming next,” /u/MosYEETo intuitively added.
If you make an illegal right turn (e.g., from a through lane) in California under Vehicle Code 22100, you can be fined about $238 before all the fees and receive 1 point on your DMV driving record. (shouselaw.com)
