The dashcam owner says it’s drivers like this that rank Knoxville as #2 for the worst driver in America.
Knoxville-area commuter and Redditor /u/RufioSwashBuckle shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier in March (Mar 8, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing the moment a pickup driver, forced to merge behind a tiny Mitsubishi Mirage, resorts to extreme road rage to exact his revenge.
Check out the dashcam footage embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened on I-75 just before Exit 383 onto Northshore and Papermill (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP is headed eastbound on I-75/I-40 towards the aforementioned intersection.
A driver in a red Ford F-150 in front of him is attempting to change lanes into Lane #4 at the same time as a driver in a Mitsubishi Mirage is doing so from Lane #3.
The driver in the F-150 is forced to slow down to avoid rear-ending the tiny Mirage, enraging them to no end.
To get back at the driver in the Mirage, the F-150 driver resorts to extreme road rage by overtaking the Mirage and brake-checking them hard.
Thankfully, the driver in the Mirage was not oblivious to the F-150 driver’s intentions and avoided crashing into them.
“Brake checking like this should be an instant license suspension,” the top comment from /u/ThisSexyPopTart reads.
“I’m convinced that between 60-99% of pickup truck drivers in TN are absolute psychopaths. They’ll tailgate you in bumper-to-bumper traffic, exasperated,” local /u/drmbrthr added.
“It’s no solace when you’re in a situation like this, but folks who do this are the most fragile of snowflakes,” /u/Debaser626 shared.
“They have to “punish” other drivers for minor transgressions because they are so insecure and frankly, just scared of life, on a daily basis that to them it’s the only possible reaction.”
In Tennessee, brake-checking another driver is considered reckless driving under Tennessee Code §55-10-205. It can result in a $50–$500 fine and up to 2 points on your driving record. Repeat or severe offenses can also lead to license suspension.
