This elderly driver was seen making an illegal U-turn across 4+ lanes, only to follow it up with a no-look lane change resulting in a crash.
Spartanburg County-area driver and Redditor /u/Whiskey_Tang0_hotel shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier in August (Aug 15, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing an elderly driver pulling an illegal U-turn from the far right lane across multiple lanes of opposing traffic, only to do a no-look lane change resulting in one disastrous sideswipe crash.

The incident happened in the 11000 block of the Asheville Highway (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP is headed eastbound on the Asheville Highway towards the intersection with State Rd S-42-824 & Mason Rd.
In the distance, you can make out a driver in a blue Chevrolet 1500 Pickup making a U-turn from what looks like the far right lane, across at least 4 lanes of traffic (incl. the center turn lane), ending up in the other far right turn lane.
This, of course, is one illegal U-turn.
As OP approaches the driver in the blue pickup, she is approaching a slower driver in a fully loaded red pickup.
We can easily see her wind-up, swinging her steering wheel all the way right before yanking it all the way left, directly into the path of OP’s vehicle.
Thankfully, OP comes to a complete stop in the center turn lane without further incident, but the damage is done.
She sideswipes OP, crashing into the side of his vehicle, sending his passenger’s mirror flopping.
“Such an aggressive lane change too. Like, f*** you in particular, OP,” one of the top comments from /u/_ShutUpLegs_ reads.
“It hurts watching her f*** up that old Chevy 1500,” /u/UnusualShrub003 added.
“Hurts looking at my 4Runner, too. She got every single panel on the passenger side, running board, both wheels, headlight, and side view mirror,” OP replied.
“It’s a 2020, but I love it. I’ve done a lot of work to it and am pretty upset about the damage. I’m having trouble finding body shops who will take it on because of the customization I have on the front. It’s got a bull bar bumper with a winch and high clearance cuts.”
In Inman, SC, an illegal U-turn (SC Code §56-5-2140) is generally punishable by up to $100 and/or 30 days, and is assessed 4 points as an unlawful turning violation. (myag.scag.gov)
