Speeders are willing to risk a massive crash instead of letting another driver get in front of them.

A previous version of this post misidentified this stretch of road as US-30 instead of Interstate 84. Thank you to the friendly e-mailer for pointing this out.

Wasco County commuter and Redditor /u/DankDogeMemesXBX shared headshaking dashcam footage from Interstate 84 to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a pair of speeders squeezing into one lane to pass OP over what was likely a bit of road rage gone off the rails.

Check out the harebrained dashcam footage embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened going southbound on I-84 before Exit 109 towards John Day Dam (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam shows, OP is driving along the Columbia River Highway in the right lane of the two lanes headed south.

This portion of the highway has a 70 MPH speed limit, so, despite the impending road rage coming up from behind, it’s not like OP was holding up traffic.

Suddenly, we see OP jerk to the right a little bit.

Moments later, it’s clear why, driver in a Ram 1500 with a camper shell and another driver in a Red Mitsubishi SUV are literally side-by-side in the fast lane, seperated my microns.

Clearly, one driver was not willing to let the other pass, resulting in this road rage situation.

Thankfully, they both cleared OP; however, it’s not certain what came of the road rage or if there was collateral damage down the road.

“Definitely a nice move getting out of the way. No traffic on the road, and they act like this? WTF?,” the top comment from /u/DillysRevenge reads.

“Both are idiots. This reeks of a camper (red car) who was overtaken (by black truck), red car played the “you shall not pass” game, and didn’t back down. Bonus. There is virtually no traffic on this road, and both played a stupid game,” /u/styckx added.

“Everything else in their lives suck but driving 2 tons of metal down the highway slightly faster than the guy next to you makes you a winner. Darwin Award winner, but a winner nonetheless,” /u/givin_u_the_high_hat threw in.

Under Oregon law, aggressive or “road rage” style driving that endangers others can be charged as reckless driving, a Class A misdemeanor that carries up to $6,250 in fines, possible jail time up to 364 days, and a 90‑day (or longer) license suspension if convicted — though Oregon doesn’t use a traditional points system.
