Despite having clear, delineated lanes to follow, this Mercedes driver decided to ignore them.

East Bay driver and Redditor /u/Tiberius_Jim shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier from the beginning of January (Jan 2, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing an incompetent Mercedes driver completely ignoring turn lane lines and almost causing one massive collision as a result.

Check out the dashcam footage for yourself below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened at the intersection of Detroit Ave and Monument Blvd (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam shows, OP is on Detroit Ave, ready to turn left onto Monument.

Even in the low light hour before sunset, the freshly paved asphalt combined with the newly painted out lines makes it easy to see the lines you’re supposed to drive between.

As OP and the two left lane turners get the green light to go, they all proceed onto Monument.

However, as they enter Monument, a driver in a silver Mercedes GLK350 (9MKX804) turns as if there are no lane lines and encroaches into OP’s lane.

OP gives a healthy dose of horn and narrowly avoids what would’ve been one massive collision.

Thankfully, both avoid touching.

The audio cuts out, and it’s safe to assume some choice words were said.

“Excellent use of your horn (which sounds very healthy). I had someone do this one time when I had my beater car and it sounded like a dying deer was softly calling out to them,” a top comment from /u/BrewCityChaserV2 reads.

“If (s)he had stayed in their lane, they probably wouldn’t have had to stop for the truck. Karma got them,” /u/K2setp70 pointed out.

“Yep, and I ended up going around him on his left while he stayed behind the truck,” OP replied.

If you get cited in California for failing to follow turn-lane markings or making an improper turn, you can face a monetary fine in addition to the one point on your DMV record. Under Vehicle Code § 22100 VC, improper turns (such as not using the correct lane) are infractions that typically carry a fine around $238 plus court assessments when paid in full, plus one point on your license.
