Are drivers in Irvine allergic to letting pedestrians cross? Seems that way.

Orange County-area driver and Redditor /u/Mytzplk shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier in January (Jan 5, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing several drivers barging past a pedestrian despite the pedestrian having the right of way with the crossing light flashing for her that she can cross.

Check out the incriminating dashcam footage embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened at the intersection of Alton Parkway and Jamboree Rd. (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam shows, OP is stopped in the left turn lane of Alton Parkway, ready to turn right onto Jamboree.

As their light turns green, an innocent girl pedestrian can be seen patiently waiting to cross the street.

It’s dark but well lighted to drivers have no excuse they couldn’t see her.

With the walking sign to cross and with the right of way, the pedestrian starts her way across, first letting one red car cross in front of her.

At this point, it should be obvious to the other turners she’s ready to take her given right of way and cross the intersection, but such is not the case.

3 other drivers cross in front of her.

Thankfully, OP has a working brain and stops to let her cross before proceeding.

I get honked at for yielding to pedestrians where I live,” the top comment from /u/donutfan420 reads.

“In Seattle, they added leading pedestrian intervals, which means the walking light comes on a few seconds before the green. They are also making more and more intersections no-turn-on-red, but with zero enforcement whatsoever. I guess it’s better than nothing,” /u/joahw added.

“I’ve never understood this because I’m in a climate-controlled box in a comfy seat and they’re walking exposed to the elements! Please go ahead, I can wait in my cushy car just fine,” /u/Emiliwoah wondered.

In California, failing to yield to a pedestrian in a marked or unmarked crosswalk (Vehicle Code § 21950) is an infraction that typically results in about a $238 base fine plus fees and adds one point to your DMV driving record. Drivers who accumulate points risk higher insurance rates and potential license actions if they gather too many within certain time frames. (Shouse Law Group)

  1. Not surprised Irvine has a bunch of morons who don’t know how to drive and think they’re entitled to endanger pedestrians’ safety, not to mention some of them probably paid for their driver’s license.
