This driver wrongfully assumed they still had a green light, went anyway, and paid dearly for their mistake.
Tarrant County-area driver and Redditor /u/Big_Teeter shared headshaking dashcam footage from near Loop 820 from earlier in July (July 7, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a driver misjudging whether or not he had a green turn arrow, going anyway, and ending up in a fender bender with a pickup with the right of way.

The incident happened at the intersection of NE Loop 820 and Denton Highway in Haltom City (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP is headed south on Denton Highway/377.
Keen eyes will notice that just as the video starts and before he crosses the Loop 820 overpass, the intersection lights past the overpass turn green.
A driver in a semi, not wanting to stop, likely ran a red at that moment.
Drivers, not wanting to t-bone a semi, are forced to pause and wait for the semi-trailer to pass.
A driver following the semi in a blue SUV, not able to see the turn lights, blindly follows the semi, assuming they still have a green when, in fact, they’ve been facing a red for several seconds at that point.
The inevitable happens, and the red-light runner gets into a fender bender with a pickup, an avoidable situation all around.
“I pulled over and checked on both drivers, and no injuries, but the truck was totaled. Didn’t take any photos of the aftermath, unfortunately,” OP clarified in the comments.

In Haltom City, TX, running a red light is generally a moving violation with a fine that can be up to $200 in Municipal Court (plus possible court costs); the city’s automated red-light civil penalty was $75, though Texas no longer uses those camera tickets statewide. A red-light crash can also result in a separate failure to yield/right-of-way or accident-related charge, insurance consequences, and typically 3 points under the Texas Driver Responsibility/point system if applicable.
