This driver’s impatience not only delayed them but also has insurance work to go through.
White Plains resident and Redditor /u/Levinv1213 shared headshaking dashcam footage, as he emerged from his Lake St. apartment complex from earlier in the month (Jan 10, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing the moment an impatient driver tried to overtake, was forced back, but was carrying too much momentum, causing him to rear-end someone else ultimately.
Check out how it all played out in the video below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
[oc] Impatient driver got a prize today
byu/Levinv1213 inIdiotsInCars
The incident happened along the 0 block of Lake Street in White Plains (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP exits his parking spot located in the basement garage of his apartment complex.
Residents in apartments along Lake St. all exit from similar parking situations, which means drivers on Lake with the right of way, at their discretion, allow drivers to merge in front of them.
As OP emerges onto a rain-soaked Lake St, a car headed east slows to allow OP to merge in front of them before they realize OP is turning left, instead.
That forces traffic behind that car to slow almost to a stop.
A vehicle, a handful of cars behind the yielder, isn’t having this, attempts to swing into opposing traffic to overtake, but meets OP head-on, requiring them to swing back into their original lane.
Flustered, now not paying attention 100% and carrying too much speed, they don’t notice the vehicle in front of them stopping, causing them to rear end them.
His impatience earned them an accident.
“Not defending the 2 cars trying to pass, but the driver turning into the parking structure didn’t have their blinker on, just slowed down to a stop,” /u/Juicy_Joey pointed out.
“It had to be confusing for the first person behind, with no patience, and the second person just used their herd mentality skills to follow right behind.”
Despite the accident, most of the top comments are about how awful OP’s parking sutation is.
“OP please contact the fire dept about the amount of junk in there. If that catches fire, everyone inside the parking garage will fry” a comment from /u/mortalomena reads.
“Never thought I would see Lake St in White Plains featured here!,” local /u/revbrown19 added.
In New York, if you’re cited for following too closely (often what police use when you rear-end someone because you weren’t paying attention), the first conviction can carry up to about a $150 fine, plus court surcharges and adds 4 points to your driver’s license. Accumulating points can lead to higher insurance rates and, if you reach 11 points within 18 months, possible license suspension. (newyorktrafficticketlawyers.com)
