Despite admitting to going a bit past the speed limit, this driver’s quick reaction saved them from almost a certain disastrous collision.

Niagra County-area driver and Redditor /u/MICHEAL_ shared headshaking dashcasm footage from earlier in 2024 (Dec 1, 2024) to the /r/Dashcam subreddit showing this Honda Civic driver’s ignorant no-look, no-yield right turn almost ending in disaster had OP not been paying attention.

Check out the dashcam footage embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened at the intersection of S Transit Rd. and Rapids Rd. (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam shows, OP is headed northbound on S Transit Rd towards the aforementioned intersection.

“A few things to note,” OP clarified.

“Yes, I’m going 63 mph, and the speed limit is 55. My cruise is set for 60 (yes, that’s still speeding, I’m aware), so I think my truck’s speedometer might need recalibrating, so I made an appointment.”

Just as they got to Rapids Dr, a driver in a white Honda Civic can be seen approaching the intersection and, instead of stopping to yield to cross traffic, they took the right turn without yielding at all, almost like they thought they had their own turn lane.

Thankfully, OP swerves out of the way just in time while honking, avoiding hitting the Civic by a couple of feet.

Whether that driver realized what a colossal mistake they made, your guess is as good as mine.

They, however, can be seen then pulling up to and passing OP on their way to wherever they were headed.

“Your speed is irrelevant. They didn’t stop at the red light and didn’t look to see if it was clear before they went. This is entirely on them. Nice evasion,” the top comment from /u/appa-ate-momo reads.

“Even if your speed is 55 below, the white car is still at fault here. They need better space awareness,” /u/S_AME concurred.

“No one deserves this, but that white car deserved to get smacked into,” /u/SidePhsychological189 added.

In New York State, a failure to yield (including failing to yield before a right-on-red) is a moving violation that results in 3 points on your driver’s license if you’re convicted. (NY DMV) Accumulating too many of these points (currently 11 or more in an 18-month period) can lead to a license suspension hearing with the DMV. (NY DMV)
