A red light runner entered the intersection a good 7 seconds into their red light.
Maricopa County driver and Redditor /u/Current_Can_3715 shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier in January (Jan 22, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing the moment an extreme red light nearly broadsided OP, the red light runner entering the intersection a good seven seconds after their light turned red.
Check out the dashcam footage embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened at the intersection of N. Mesa Riverview and Dobsen Rd. (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP is on Mesa Riverview, ready to turn left onto Dobsen.
With a flashing yellow, he yields to traffic with the right of way going straight.
From the dashcam’s POV, you can see cross traffic had the red light for several seconds at that point, 7 seconds to be exact.
Suddenly, an extreme red light runner appears from the left and cuts in front of OP, nearly broadsiding him at speed.
If he hit at that speed, it would have been one catastrophic and likely injurious accident.
“Good save! Insane how often this s*** happens,” the top comment from /u/NeighborhoodVirtual4 reads.
“Thanks, confused my brain when I initially saw them. Second red light runner encounter in about a week. Hate it!” OP replied.
“I’ve had people do this a lot recently, but never that late. Actually, if one had been that late, I’d have been t-boned right after Christmas. It kills me how people just casually run a red light like this…,” /u/StackThePads33 shared.
In Mesa, AZ (and statewide in Arizona), a red light violation is typically a civil traffic offense with a fine around ~$230 – $265 plus state/municipal fees, and it adds 2 points to your driving record under the Arizona point system.(Mesa)
If you’re found responsible, the Motor Vehicle Division requires Traffic Survival School in addition to the fine; accumulating too many points can lead to further consequences like license actions.(Arizona Department of Transportation)
