This Ford Bronco driver couldn’t wait a couple of seconds to overtake a slower driver legally and instead drove into oncoming traffic.
LA County-area driver and Redditor /u/teach4food shared heinous dashcam footage from earlier in June (June 10, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a reckless driver in their Ford Bronco resorting to driving into oncoming traffic, mid-turn, just to get around a “slower” driver.
Check out the near miss in the footage below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened at the intersection of Santa Clara and Santa Anita Ave (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP is headed eastbound down Santa Clara, ready to turn left onto Santa Clarita.
Suddenly, as he approaches the limit line, a driver in a Toyota Camry can be seen turning right on red onto Santa Clara.
Hot on the Camry’s rear bumper is an absolute goofball in their green Ford Bronco who, realizing they’re “stuck” behind the slower Camry driver, decides to swing wide into opposing traffic, encroaching into OP’s turning lane.
OP has to emergency brake to avoid hitting the Bronco driver, hellbent on getting in front of the Camry.
They come within a handful of feet of colliding.
It’s worth noting that side of Santa Clara is single lane only for a quarter of a mile before drivers are forced to split into one of two turn lanes.
“That was exceptionally stupid. I call these maneuvers super high risk and extremely low reward. Literally saved.. <1 second? 2 seconds?,” the top comment from /u/anorakchem reads.
“I went frame by frame, you can see him leaning and the car dipping due to his speed and acceleration. Wild,” OP replied.
“Video proof for all the people who insist that it’s impossible to honk and brake at the same time. Well done,” /u/appa-ate-momo complimented OP.
In Los Angeles County, there isn’t a separate county penalty—traffic fines and DMV points follow California law. If a driver turned into opposing traffic / drove against traffic and nearly caused a collision, a common citation could be improper turning (VC 22100) or failure to drive on the right side (VC 21650) depending on exactly what happened. Typical outcome: about $238 total fine and 1 DMV point; more serious behavior (actual reckless driving, injury, divided highway violations, etc.) can increase penalties. (shouselaw.com)
