Son of Michael Schumacher, Mick, recently opened up about his father and it’s everything we could’ve expected from a budding driver.

It’s been four years since Micheal Schumacher suffered that terrible sking accident that robbed him of most of his physical abilities but none has been hit harder by the new normality of it all then his loving wife and two children Gina and Mick. Out of respect and privacy of the family, media has all but left their children alone but according to the Daily Express on their report (Mar. 28, 2017) on an interview Mick had with German news RTL earlier this week, Mick opened up a little on how he feels about his dad and how he wants to be the best just like his father was.

According to Mick,

“My role model is my dad. Simply because it is the best. My idol.”

Now 18, Mick Schumacher has been actively racing since he was nine years old starting his racing career in Karting. Just like his father, who preferred to stay out of the spotlight, he changed his racing name to Mick Betch in a nod to his mother’s maiden name.

His sucess in Karting landed him a test drive for Jenzer Motorsport in Formula 4 and in 2015 Mick started actively racing for Van Amersfoort racing. This time around he switched to his real last name, Schumacher. Last year Mick changed teams to Prema Powerteam which is known for being closely linked to Ferrari’s Driver Academy. With his time with Prema Powerteam Mick finished runner up in F4  to “Joey Mawson and Marcos Siebert respectively.”

His racing success on his own merit has also garnered him an open invitation from Ferrari to join their young driver’s program and Mick’s already working as a brand ambassador for Mercedes.

When asked about his goals as a driver Mick simply responded that,

“My goal is to become Formula One world champion.”

Although it pains us that in all likelihood we won’t see Michael Schumacher back at his top form anytime soon, following his son Mick progress through the ranks does bring a smile to our faces.

All the best Mick and keep racing!
