Hype Alert: Craigslist Reseller Lists His 2017 Honda Civic Type R Spot For $85,000

A Craigslist ad appeared earlier today listing an opportunity to buy a 2017 Honda Civic Type R from a private party for $85,000.

Since Honda released most of the details for the 2017 Honda Civic Type R and even won back their FWD Nurburgring record earlier last month, the hype surrounding the 2017 Honda Civic Type R has reached a crescendo. In order to take advantage of all this positive media exposure headed the CTR’s way, it looks like someone was serious enough to post an ad on Craigslist reselling his 2017 Honda Civic Type R spot for $85,000 (that’s 143% more than the estimated MSRP.) Although the ad has already been flagged for removal, most likely in response to such a heinous offer, nothing ever is erased from the internet and there are numerous screenshots of the ad. We’ve posted those below.

The full ad reads, 

“I already have a large deposit down at a Honda dealership for a new Type R launching this June. This is a guaranteed deal that the dealership and myself are already committed to with paperwork to prove. I will be taking delivery of this vehicle on June 15th or sooner depending on the actual arrival date.

I do not know what color this vehicle will be nor does the dealership. I will be selling this vehicle to a committed buyer I have selected beforehand. 

I am solely selling this vehicle because of an opportunity to make money to fund my other interest. I am absolutely in love with this car and have no problems keeping it if I am not satisfied with the offers. 

With that said, my selling price on this is $85,000. If you think this is crazy, then this isn’t the car for you or feel free to add your name to the extremely long list of people for every Honda Dealership in hopes of landing one.

There’s a slight chance that this reseller is trolling us all with his ad but most of the prank ads we’ve come across on craigslist don’t have 204 well thought out words written down. Usually, we can smell the b.s. a mile away. This guy might’ve actually been serious.

The 2017 Honda Civic Type R has an estimated MSRP of $35,000. Yes, there will be dealer markups.There’s no getting around this nefarious tradition. CivicX.com even has a list of dealers with markups ranging from $2,500 all the way up to $10,000 in anticipation of high demand. But for a buyer to relist his spot for $50,000 above what the MSRP will be is downright crazy.
