A look at Subaru’s lineup and the largest vehicle they have is their Outback. With seating for five, growing families loyal to the Subaru brand had to look elsewhere, but not for long. According to Subaru in a tweet they posted earlier today (Nov. 14, 2017) they’re finally going to show off the production-ready version of their seven-seater three-row SUV a.k.a. the Ascent. Check out that tweet below!

It was at the L.A. Auto Show just last year that Subaru unveiled their Viziv-7 Concept that was meant to replace their seven-passenger Tribeca from 2014. At the time spy shots of the Viziv were going around, the Mazda CX-9 and Ford Explorer were being benchmarked, both aforementioned SUV’s following close behind.

A few months later, Subaru unveiled their Ascent Concept at the 2017 New York Auto Show. Sporting a much more refined look and a front end more in line with the rest of its lineup, the Ascent concept moved away from the company’s more boxy design and graced the Ascent with smoother flowing lines.  With a promise from Subaru that Ascent would be on dealer lots by 2018, it was easy to peel away the Ascent concept’s more refined features to reveal the production-ready version underneath.

Like any solid product, many Subaru buyers are repeat customers. Their first car might’ve been a second-hand Subaru Baja from their Dad. From their, they might’ve got a brand new Outback to meet the needs of their starter family. And now, after being loyal to the brand for so long, they can finally upgrade to something bigger, more suitable to their needs.

Like all Subaru’s (well, except for the BR-Z) this Ascent will benefit from Subaru’s legendary four-wheel drive system. For powerplant options, we can look to their Impreza or Outback lineup where one of their 2.0 or 2.5 boxer fours will serve as the base engine and a larger 3.6L from the Outback as optional.

The L.A. Auto Show is will be from Dec 1-10 presumably with a media day before that. By then, we should have more details on this Tribeca replacement then.
