Tuning geniuses out of Britain, BBR, have developed a 210 HP turbocharger upgrade for ND Miata’s equipped with Skyactiv 1.5L engines.

Although Mazda has graced their latest and greatest Miata with naturally aspirated power that they assure you is good enough for your open-top motoring needs, most car enthusiasts will balk at Mazda’s 130 HP boast from its 1.5L Skyactv engine. But according to BBR GTI and their latest press release they dropped earlier this week (Dec. 10, 2017) they’ve finally come up with a turbocharger upgrade that really livens up the ol’ SkyActiv-G to the tune of 210 HP. Check out what the turbocharger upgrade looks like for yourself below.

Before BBR came out with this 1.5L turbo upgrade, their 2.0L turbo upgrade was already gaining traction as quite the power adder that added a whopping 87 HP and 83 lb-ft all while keeping the Miata MOT compliant (an annual UK test needed to be done on all cars that test emissions and roadworthiness.)

When all is said and done, the BBR Stage one turbocharger upgrade raises peak power to 210 HP and 197 lb-ft which is gains of 81 HP and 86 lb-ft thanks to exclusive TSX28-67R twin-scroll turbocharger mounted on a bespoke BBR designed cast-iron twin scroll manifold.

Included in the turbocharger upgrade is an ECU tune using a software package from EcuTek RaceRom and Starchip so presumably new fuel, ignition, and boost calibration maps are all plug and play.

‘On the Stage 1 conversion boost is set a conservative 7 psi, which is well within the limits of both the BBR turbocharger and the SKYACTIV-G engine,’

Priced at $5,857 equivalent dollars from British pounds, it’s quite the expensive kit.

If you’re wondering if you can get this turbo kit in the United States, I think it’s just a matter of time before it’s certified by California thanks to the people over at Flyin Miata who’ve already got BBR’s 2.0L ND turbo kit certified for use on California roads.

While the 2.0L might be the more powerful motor of the two choices for the ND, those that opted for the 1.5L have a little solace knowing that, if they want, they could easily bolt on close to 90 HP if they wanted to.
